Handmade in Maryland
Every BCN Woodcrafts piece is individually crafted and finished in our Maryland workshop. The Rampant Lion engraving is laser-cut and then hand-filled with resin — the same two-step process used on the Celtic Bull board. Sapele's interlocked grain catches the light differently at every angle, giving the finished piece a depth that flat photos don't fully capture.
Real Wood Feels Better.
Care & Maintenance
Hand wash only — do not soak or put in the dishwasher. Dry immediately after use. Occasional reapplication of a food-safe oil will maintain the wood.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Rampant Lion? The Rampant Lion is a heraldic symbol with deep roots in Scottish history — a red lion rearing on its hind legs, historically associated with the Kingdom of Scotland and Scottish royal heritage.
What is Sapele wood? Sapele is an African hardwood with a rich reddish-brown tone and interlocked grain that creates a ribbon-like figure in the light. Often compared to mahogany but with more visual complexity.
What is the resin fill on the engraving? The Rampant Lion is laser-engraved and then filled with resin, giving the design real depth and dimension beyond a standard flat engraving.
Do the shot glasses come with it? You can choose board only or board with 6 shot glasses at checkout.
How is this different from the Celtic Bull board? The Celtic Bull board is sized for 4 Glencairn glasses. This board holds 6 shot glasses — better for larger comparative tastings or groups.
Can I get a custom engraving? This board features a fixed Rampant Lion design. For a custom engraving, contact us to discuss a custom order.
Where is it made? Handcrafted and engraved by BCN Woodcrafts in Maryland, USA.
